3G connectivity in India?
Note the little icon on the top-left.

A screenshot of my N70′s desktop while descending the Western Ghats en route to Mangalore. Service provider is Airtel.

Update: Vaishak Suresh tells me that “if the network is set to Dual mode on your phone when there is no network, the icon defaults to 3G”.

To clarify, yes, my phone was set to Dual Mode, and there was no network. Only question is, why does it not happen while I’m in the city? Why a remote place such as the Western Ghats highway?

  1. Airtel was known to have been testing their network for 3G in certain parts. The test was supposed to be over. May be it wasnt?

  2. The same thing happens with my Nokia 6630 when i try to use it in metro stations in calcutta.I wont agree about the 3G network trials theory because first i have a vodafone connection and second i saw this happening about 16-20 months ago.

  3. @Tushar: Yeah, so a lot of my friends concurred that it was due to Dual Mode switched ON when there’s no network. Thanks for the comment, and welcome to my blog. :)
