Twitter – The Best Search Engine?

Lets get some things cleared first. If you still haven’t heard of Twitter, or if you still are not using Twitter, then you’re a douche bag. Forget this post and go home.

douche bag

I’ve been on Twitter since January this year and I have to say that it is really addictive, fun, and informative. Not only do you meet new people, but you get the best news, stories, articles and links delivered instantly to your desktop. No searches involved, no websites to visit, no feeds to read, NOTHING. Think of it as a much more refined StumbleUpon. Importantly, all this is shared by your friends – the people with whom you share [at least some] similar interests.

Recently, I decided to download Firefox 3.0 (prior to its official release) and try it out on my PC. Me being an Opera user, I didn’t have any idea as to how to backup my entire profile. I posted the query on twitter (or rather, I tweeted about it ;) ) and went offline. Minutes later, I had the results waiting for me. [1] [2] [3]

Of course, there’s ChaCha, but Twitter’s human “search engine” has a more friendly touch! Besides, because you have people from different cultures, countries and professions, you get a whole lot different response from each of them. Every question you ask, be it about technology, software, girls (I just had to include that), or even local city based questions, you can ask them all and get a definite answer to all of them.

So the next time you’re in Bangalore and need directions to a good restaurant, send me a tweet! :D
