BSNL EVDO Data Plans and Tariff

Had just been to the BSNL office to enquire about the EVDO service. Here are the tariffs:

On Rent:

  • Security Deposit: Rs.1000
  • Activation: Rs.500
  • Monthly Rental: Rs.200 + Rs.550
  • Bandwidth: Unlimited Usage (speed more than 512 kbps and upto 2.4 Mbps)
  • Total: Rs.750+taxes.

    On Purchase:

  • Payment: Rs.3000
  • Activation: Rs.500
  • Monthly Rental: Rs.550
  • Bandwidth: Unlimited Usage (speed more than 512 kbps and upto 2.4 Mbps)
  • Total: Rs.550+taxes

Of course, this is the rate of the plans in Bangalore, Karnataka.

The plans sound very good. I’m not sure I’m ready to change from DataOne to EVDO. With BSNL Data One, users have to pay Rs.750 for 256kbps unlimited and Rs.1350 for 512kbps unlimited, but with EVDO you get unlimited at upto 2.4Mbps for Rs.550. Then again, it depends a lot on the strength of the signal. On an average, people report at least 1Mbps speeds.

What do you think? Go with BSNL EVDO or stick to BSNL DataOne?

    1. Stick to Dataone, me feels.
@vysakh is right, you get a single, static, shared IP. THink about it. You can also ask @gigacore about EVDO, he’s been using it since 2007, and also runs bsnlevdoclub.com
      (Change of theme? )

    2. @Sathya @Vysakh A shared static IP? That usually means trouble. And yup, started following the guy a few days back. I’m sticking to DataOne as you say ’cause changing to EVDO requires me to buy/purchase hardware, rendering my current modem (which I bought) useless.

And hehe, made a quick theme change. This one has built in AdSense capabilities n looks cool too IMO. :P
